Vintage 1971 Fender Stratocaster 4 Bolt Original Black Guitar

Vintage 1971 Fender Stratocaster 4 Bolt Original Black Guitar

This incredible guitar was purchased right out of the untouched North West of Ireland. Where it had been all it’s life. I took a trip over there to purchase a load of gear from the original owner. John his initials etched into the pihckguard and back cavity. This was one of the nicest pieces. John purchased this off another friend in the 1980s, who I also met. John put this through some work over the years, as you can see, but it is really one of the nicest players guitars you’ll see. Original black in colour, this has had an overspray in the past, leaving the lacquer crazing as you can see.

As you can see, he chiseled out the neck pocket (rather crudely) to make the neck sit lower, and even the pickup cavities have been sanded to fit the later Dimarzio pickup in the bridge position. I think at some point it has had another pickup in the middle too. The 4-bolt neck dates to 1971 and has a lovely feel to it – nicely worn in! Two of the pots are later additions, dating to 1974, but one dates to 1966 which is a regularly occurrence in these 4-bolts. The other two pickups are black bottoms from around 1973/1974 which I believe were replaced when the pots were changed.

The switch is original, but has been re-wired when the other pickups were put in, and it has had changed Schaller tuners too! Cosmetically a real head turner. I love this guitar – it is full of character! Weighs just 7lbs 5oz too. You will not be disappointed with this beauty!
