Vintage 1968 1969 Marshall Major 200w Plexi PURPLE Amplifier Head

Vintage 1968 1969 Marshall Major 200w Plexi PURPLE Amplifier Head

This is one of the rarest amplifiers you’ll come across. An original Plexi panel 1968 / 1969 Marshall Major in original purple tolex. Honestly – find another!? This is highly likely to have been a custom order for a pretty significant band back in the day. You had to play some big places to justify a 200w! Likely a quick custom order to get it out to a touring band, and likely to have then come back after tour for a fresh purple front panel re-cover/replacement (you can see the difference in the tolex colour, though they’re both period correct), and a repair to one of the bottom joints (very sturdy!).

I got this in Europe where it had been for some time, being purchased second hand by the previous owner. It’s had a newer set of Groove Tubes 6550 in it, alongside some vintage pre-amp valves, putting out around 210w at 8ohms – incredible!! It’s had a recent service by my tech, to a high standard, and I can confirm one of the switches has been replaced in the past, as have the fuse holders. The logo is a later replacement, the handle end caps are replacements, one of the knob end caps is a later replacement, and one of the output transformer mounting feet had broken so he fixed as pictured. It’s an honest touring amplifier that has been well used, and well maintained.

One of the loudest and craziest amplifiers you will ever see. A real rarity, especially as an original plexi. A real special amplifier – grab it whilst you can! Please check out the in-depth pictures below as these form part of our description.
