Vintage 1966 Fender Telecaster USA Black Relic Refinish Guitar 1960s
If you are looking for a players grade 1960s Telecaster, this is for sure the one for you. I found it tucked away in the USA at the end of last year and it was in a right mess. It had been stripped and re-varnished and the pickups messed with. A Kahler added, machine heads changed and then put back on again. Basically everything you can think of – some pretty wild work over the years! I decided to take it on as a project to get it back going again. I asked my good friend Barringtone Relics to match the finish to the wild Kahler and changed pickups. He added a smooth black finish, and then relic’d it back to show the woodgrain underneath. It all ties together perfectly.
The guitar itself is date to 1966, with the 166205 serial number, the neck dated 3rd July 1966, and the pots all dating to 1966 too. You can still see the original blonde finish in the neck pocket and pickup cavities. It plays well up and down the neck, a really nice feel to the neck, and the sound is incredible with those later pickups. I would say in the near future it would be in need of a re-fret, but it plays well as it is today.
Yes, it’s had a wild life and no, it isn’t the most perfect 1960s Fender guitar – it’s definitely a player’s grade guitar – but that means you get a 1966 Telecaster for a fraction of the price.
