Vintage 1963 Vox AC30 Super Twin Amplifier Head Cabinet Stack
This is a truly wonderful setup, one of the coolest I’ve seen for some time. An original 1963 Vox AC30 Super Twin, complete with the original matching cabinet from new. This is one of the earliest Super Twin’s you’ll find, right smack in the middle of the fawn/black tolex crossover. This would originally have had leather strap handles for example! What is more, this is a ‘bass’ model (still perfect for guitar of course, but a rarer model), and still has the ‘bass’ logo beneath the Vox logo. I found this in Manchester, where it had been brought in to a local music store by the long term local owner. It has smooth, thin tolex – the first style of black that Vox used.
All three transformers are original to the amplifier, and it even comes with the original large round Vox footswitch. The 4x EL84 valves are a mixture of period replacements. The rectifier is an original Mullard GZ34. The majority of the pre-amp valves are original to the amplifier too. The handles on the head and cabinet are both replacements from the original leather handles that would have broken early on, and the foot on both are replaced too. Inside the matching cabinet is a pair of slightly later replacement Celestion T1088 Silver speakers dating to 7th September 1965, complete with the original cones, which are likely to have been there since 1965!
This is one of the first great JMI Super Twin’s, and is very rare to find as a complete set! You’ll not be disappointed. This has recently been serviced by a UK leading amplifier tech and it plays great! Please see the pictures below as these form part of my description.
