Vintage 1960 Gibson GA200 Rhythm King 2×12 USA Amplifier Combo
This wonderful American made Gibson GA200 came to me in a right state, and my tech has done a superb job in restoring it back to working condition. This model is hardly ever seen, especially in the UK – a 1960 Gibson GA200 ‘Rhythm King’ 2×12 combo. It has an unusual factory compression circuit which can be switched in and out. This only has any effect at high volumes and is very nice – a genuine early 1960s Gibson innovation.
The important bits of the amplifier are original, including all the transformers dating to 1960. The valves in it are a mixture of original and replacements, but all are good quality ones indeed. The cabinet has been stripped of the tweed tolex, and the bare wood is now showing very well indeed (checkout the grain!). It was missing the speakers so we bought a nice brand new pair of Jensen C12N speakers to go inside. It’s a players grade / touring ready example. I’ve priced this to sell considering. Therefore, your personal preference may differ, depending on your circumstances (i.e. collector or musician), and you may decide to service the item in more depth upon receiving.
