Vintage 1960 Fender Duo Sonic Desert Sand Tan Guitar OHSC Strap

Vintage 1960 Fender Duo Sonic Desert Sand Tan Guitar OHSC Strap

Just arrived in the locker: an exceptionally uncirculated 1960 Fender Duo-Sonic — the kind of guitar that almost never surfaces anymore. I personally brought this one back from the USA after discovering it quietly sitting in a small-town pawn shop. It had been pawned by the neighbour of the original owner. He purchased it brand new in 1960, taught her to play on it, and later gifted it to her — where it remained untouched for decades.

History

Introduced by Fender in 1956, the Duo-Sonic was designed as a short-scale student model. It shared much of its DNA with the Musicmaster but offering dual pickups for greater tonal versatility. Built in Fullerton, California, these early Duo-Sonics feature the same high-quality materials and craftsmanship as Fender’s professional instruments of the era, making them far more than just “student” guitars. Their comfortable scale length, clear articulate pickups, and stripped-back simplicity have since earned them a cult following among players and collectors alike.

Specific History

This guitar has never passed through dealers, collectors, or auctions. It is a genuine one-owner instrument and a true time capsule. Crucially, the scratchplate and neck had never been removed. Underneath is completely untouched, exactly as it left Fullerton in 1960 — something even seasoned collectors rarely encounter. The originality here is unquestionable. The guitar remains clean, honest, and genuinely uncirculated, retaining all the charm and integrity you’d hope for from an early Fender. It comes with its original case (missing a strap handle mind you!), along with the original strap, plectrum, and tuning pipe, all preserved together exactly as they were kept. An extraordinarily rare opportunity to acquire a 1960 Duo-Sonic with full provenance, untouched originality, and its complete original accessories intact — could you say a ‘museum-grade example’ of early Fender history. Grab an absolute stunner!
