Vintage 1960 1961 Fender Princeton Tweed 5F2A Guitar Amplifier

What a beautiful amplifier this is! We purchased this off the family of the original owner. The original owner purchased this brand new in 1961, gigged it for a couple of years, and then gave it to his cousin – the person we purchased this off. This particular amplifier dates to very early 1961, with the KE date code, just before the crossover to the brown tolex. What is more, this is totally original! We’ve decided not to touch the insides as it is such original condition, and sounds awesome (I have a video for anyone who is interested).

Both transformers have the 606 model code, indicating Schumacher made, followed by 0, indicting they were made in 1960. The original Astron capacitors date to 1960 too. There is a step transformer bolted to the bottom of the cabinet, which has been there since new, and it still does the job perfectly. The original Oxford 8EV-29 speaker is there, but has a small puncture hole in it, as pictured. When played, you wouldn’t know the puncture was there – it sounds amazing (video to prove this). In addition, the original jewel light is missing the bulb internally so, although everything is there you need for originality, it will need a bulb placing inside. Otherwise, it is an amazing example of this amplifier – near enough completely untouched and unmolested – especially by us! You’ll struggle to find a purer example. Cosmetically it has a few scrapes to the tweed cloth, but nothing is missing. If looks could kill…

At The Music Locker we will do all we can for you to get the instrument you want. You’re more than welcome to come and have a play on this, coupled with one of our vintage guitars!

The Music Locker prides itself on offering vintage and collectable pre-owned instruments and equipment (the Products).

We take all reasonable steps to ensure the equipment has been inspected by a competent person in the UK to ensure it complies with UK safety standards. This may mean it does not comply with the current standards in the country in which it will be subsequently used. It is the purchasers’ responsibility to ensure it is inspected by a competent person knowledgeable with the relevant electrical safety standards within that country, prior to connecting to any live electrical circuit.

It is the philosophy of The Music Locker to keep all items as original as possible, only changing original components when absolutely necessary. This includes valves, capacitors, transformers, potentiometers, frets, etc. This gives the buyer the option of tailoring to their exact needs, and may mean that the item is not operating at optimum performance levels. Therefore, your personal preference may differ, depending on your circumstances (i.e. collector or musician), and you may decide to service the item in more depth upon receiving.

The Music Locker cannot accept responsibility for any costs of refurbishment to a standard different to the one advertised.
