This is a late 1960s Cry Baby Wah pedal, made by Jen for Vox – the first Cry Baby’s before Jen put their own name on. An extremely rare beast!
We recently received this from a Cry Baby expert:
“The earliest (67) wahs had halo inductors. Film cans came later. I have a film can inductor Cry Baby that says “Vox and Made in Italy for Thomas Organ.” but has no patent number and doesn’t even say patent pending (pre -70). I’m going to guess that yours is not a Thomas Cry Baby because it doesn’t say Thomas or Vox on it. Yours looks like an early Italian (JEN) wah. After Thomas failed to trademark the Cry Baby name, JEN just made these Cry Babies w/o the Thomas or Vox name and sold them all over Europe, especially after Thomas moved all of their production from Italy to the US (and the tone quality went down). So, IMHO, your wah is actually more desirable than any later “Made in Chicago” Thomas wahs, and is electronically exactly the same as the Italian Thomas wahs from the same era. Very nice”
These early Black crossover versions are extremely rare and you’ll not be disappointed with the sound of this! Used by people such as Hendrix, Page, Schenker, Walsh.
This has just been checked over and is ready to plug in and play!
